Synthesis and Radical Copolymerization of Novel Phenyl-Disubstituted Propyl Cyanoacrylates- Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-   ACADEMIC JOURNAL OF POLYMER SCIENCE Abstract Novel phenyl-disubstituted propyl 3-(R-phenyl)-2-cyanoacrylates, RPhCH=C(CN)CO 2 C 3 H 7 (where R is 2-fluoro-5-methyl, 3-iodo-4-methoxy, 5-iodo-2-methoxy, 3,5-dichloro, 3,4-difluoro, 3,5-difluoro, 2-chloro-4-fluoro, 2-chloro-6-fluoro, 3-chloro-2-fluoro, and 3-chloro-4-fluoro) were prepared using condensation of substituted benzoic aldehydes and propyl ester of cyanoacetic acid. The ethynyl benzene copolymerization of novel cyanoacrylates was conducted in solution with radical initiation at 70 C. Nitrogen analysis, 1 H & 13 C NMR was used to analyze composition and the structure. Thermal behavior of the copolymers was analyzed by DSC and TGA. Keywords: Radical copolymerization; Styrene copolymers; Trisubstituted ethylene’s; Cyanoacrylates Introduction Ring–functionalized trisubstituted ethylene’s (TSE), esters of 3-phenyl

Production of NSSC Cellulosic Pulp Fibers from Eucalyptus Cameldulensis- Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-   ACADEMIC JOURNAL OF POLYMER SCIENCE Abstract This study has aimed to investigate production of neutral sulfite semi-chemical (NSSC) pulping from eucalyptus camaldulensis in Zabol, Sistan & Balouchestan, Iran. Chemical composition including cellulose, lignin, extractive and ash were measured (48.33%), (28.49%), (5.94%) & (0.65%) respectively, while dimension of fibers including length (0.935mm), diameter (19.13μm), lumen cavity (8.89μm) & cell wall thickness (5.12μm). Cooking conditions were consist of three levels of chemical charge (10, 14 & 18% on O.D weight), constant time of 90min, constant temperature of 170 °C & liquor to wood ratio of 7:1. The pulps were refined to 400±25mL, CSF & 127gm-2 hand sheets were made. Finally, strength properties of the pulps were compared and evaluated with that of Mazandaran Wood and Paper Industries (MWPI), Iran. The results showed that pul

Major Reduction in Chemical Curatives for Rubber Articles-Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-   ACADEMIC JOURNAL OF POLYMER SCIENCE Opinion The sulfur cure system in the ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM)-based Curtain Wall Seal (CWS) has two accelerators, adding up to 2.75 parts per hundred rubber (phr) by weight, and two activators (ZnO: 5phr, stearic acid:1phr) [1]. In total, 8.75phr chemicals are used to fully cure the article with 1phr elemental sulfur. In rubber formulations, chemical curatives are indispensable and once reacted with sulfur at elevated temperature, they produce crosslinks between the rubber chains and provide shape stability, which is essential for the performance, durability and life of the final product in service. Excessive use of chemical curatives is harmful to health, safety, and the environment. According to the European Directive 67/548/EEC, chemicals such as sulfenamide accelerators, zinc oxide and stearic acid are very toxic to aquatic organisms [2]. Stearic ac

Ballistic Studies on Fox-7 Based Triple Base Propellant for High Calibre Gun-Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-   ACADEMIC JOURNAL OF POLYMER SCIENCE Abstract In the present work, triple base propellant (TBP) containing mainly energetic nitrate polymer nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine, picrite, 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethene (FOX-7) along with ingredients such as stabiliser and plasticizer has been processed by solvent method. Picrite has been replaced in increments with FOX-7 from the propellant composition. Acetone: ethanol used as solvent to gelatinise/plasticize NC during processing. Dimensions of the propellant was determined by physical measurement and propellant grains were subjected to mechanical properties (compressive strength (CS), % compression) determination, sensitivity tests and closed vessel (CV) firing. Incorporation of FOX-7 led to remarkable increase in CS at sub-zero temperatures (-20°C) and reduced at higher temperatures (+55°C) for 20 % FOX-7 in TBP composition. CV test of the propellant was car
